Our constructed wetland, while functioning as an environmentally sustainable method of waste treatment has the added benefit of providing a multitude of habitat spaces for many native and endemic plant, insect and bird species. Wetlands have been in rapid decline on the West Coast as the areas they previously occupied have been drained and developed for farmland. Consequently many of the species that they provided habitats for have been displaced and declined in abundance. It is encouraging to observe a variety of bird species either feeding or nesting within our wetland and evidence of its complimentary ecological habitat and landscape values.
